Other Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@prov.co.nz if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Both Architects and Architectural Designers can design residential buildings and prepare documentation for construction and council consent. Architects are registered under the New Zealand Registered Architects Board (NZRAB), while Architectural Designers may come from a variety of design and construction backgrounds, Architectural designers are generally Licensed by the LBP Scheme. The right choice often depends on your project's complexity, budget, and requirements. For many residential projects, an experienced Architectural Designer can provide excellent design and documentation services.

Not all renovations require building consent. Minor cosmetic work such as painting, flooring, or replacing kitchen cabinetry may not require approval. However, structural alterations, extensions, plumbing changes, and certain building modifications often do. We can help assess your project and determine whether building consent is required before work begins.

The design process varies depending on the project's size and complexity. Smaller alterations may take a few weeks, while larger new builds and consent documentation can take several months. During our initial consultation, we'll discuss expected timelines and provide a realistic programme tailored to your project. We try our best to make the process seamless and effortless for our clients.

Yes. We can provide high-quality 3D renders that help you visualise your project before construction begins. These renders can assist with design decisions, material selections, client presentations, and understanding how the finished project will look in its environment.

Yes. We can visit your property, measure the existing building, and prepare accurate as-built drawings. These plans are often required for renovations, additions, consent applications, property records, and understanding existing site conditions before design work begins.

Absolutely. We can assist with the design and documentation of minor dwellings, sleepouts, home offices, secondary dwellings, and other small residential structures. We'll also help determine any consent requirements and ensure the design complies with relevant regulations.

Construction costs vary significantly depending on size, location, site conditions, level of finish, and market conditions. During the early design stage, we work with you to understand your budget and develop practical design solutions that align with your financial goals. We also recommend engaging builders or quantity surveyors early when accurate cost advice is required.

Yes. We regularly work with clients to review council feedback, identify areas requiring clarification, and prepare revised documentation where necessary. Our goal is to help resolve issues efficiently and support a smoother path through the approval process.

Engaging a designer early allows your project to be properly planned before construction begins. We help develop practical layouts, prepare clear documentation, coordinate consultant information, and ensure the design aligns with your goals, budget, and council requirements. This helps create a smoother process and provides builders with quality information to price and construct the project effectively.
